Job Summary: The purpose of this position is to provide technical and professional services to the Property and Liability Division with additional support to the Workers’ Compensation Division of the Office of Insurance Services. Assist in processing insurance claims and providing technical and professional assistance in claims investigations, claims settlements, discovery, and trial processes for MUSC and MUSC Health System (including MUHA, the Regional Health Network, faculty and physicians’ practice plans, and other affiliated organizations. Acts as a liaison to all MUSC and MUSC Health System injured parties (Engineering and Facilities, Human Resources, individual departments, etc.). Act as a liaison during the discovery and trial processes between individuals affiliated with MUSC, MUSC Health System, and outside counsel representing MUSC and/or MUSC Health System. Assist in acquiring and maintaining adequate coverage for lines of insurance coverage for MUSC and in support of Insurance Services shared service agreements. Ensures accurate data related to workplace injuries and non-medical malpractice claims is maintained in claims management system for analysis and dashboard reporting. Serve on various committees as needed.

Payscale Salary Range: UNIV-Band 6: $41,778.00 - $59,538.50 - $77,299.00 (min - mid - max)

Job Duties:

  • 35% - CLAIMS COORDINATOR: Assists in processing and monitoring property and non-professional liability insurance claims from initiation to close. Initiates investigations of agency claims and ensures accurate and timely documentation. Provides technical and professional assistance in claims investigations, claims settlements, discovery, and trial processes for MUSC and/or MUSC Health System. Assists in preparing grant applications for federal and state assistance. Acts as a liaison to all MUSC and/or MUSC Health System injured parties (Engineering and Facilities, Human Resources, Legal, individual departments, etc.) and insurance adjusters. Acts as a liaison during the discovery and trial processes between individuals affiliated with MUSC and/or MUSC Health System and outside counsel representing MUSC and/or MUSC Health System. Provides technical and professional assistance to Workers’ Compensation Division in management of MUSC and MUHA Workers’ Compensation and self-insured claims from notification of potential claim until closure of claim, to include but not limited to case management, billing, and transition back to work assistance. - (Essential)
  • 25% - INSURANCE COORDINATOR: Assists in acquiring and maintaining adequate coverage for all lines of insurance. Reviews agreements, contracts, and leases for MUSC and/or MUSC Health System and in support of Insurance Services shared service agreements to ensure adequate insurance coverage. Assists in annual renewals of all lines of coverage and ensures applications for renewal or new coverage are complete and accurate. Prepares and distributes insurance certificates as needed for all lines of coverage for MUSC and/or MUSC Health System and in support of the Insurance Services shared service agreements. Provides verification of Professional Liability coverage for MUSC and MUSC Health System medical personnel. - (Essential)
  • 35% - INJURY & CLAIMS DATA SUPPORT: Ensures accurate data related to claims is maintained in claims management system for analysis and dashboard reporting for MUSC and/or MUSC Health System and in support of the Insurance Services shared service agreements. Prepares monthly and ad hoc reports. Maintains all MUSC and MUHA Charleston injury data as required by regulatory bodies such as OSHA and Joint Commission and as requested by leadership for various organizations and dashboards. Provide all requested injury-related reports at required intervals. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Other duties as required. Carries out special projects, serves on various committees as needed, and performs assignments as directed by the Insurance Services Leadership. This position is considered an essential position. - (Essential)

Preferred Experience & Additional Skills:

Knowledge of laws, regulations, policies and procedures relevant to insurance.
Employee should be familiar with the SC Tort Claims Act.

Employee works under the direct guidance of the Property & Liability Insurance Manager and provides support to the Workers’ Compensation Manager, and Insurance Services’ Leadership but must be able to work independently with latitude to use discretion and sound judgment in making decisions.
The individual in this position must have initiative, be customer service oriented and highly motivated. The work environment requires flexibility and adaptability to change. Position requires travel for property site visits and meetings with external stakeholders.

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: A bachelor's degree and two years relevant program experience.
