Job description

This position reports to the Vice President of Communications. The Community Affairs Specialist position will work with the Public Relations team to shape the Partnership’s brand internally and externally and will help support the Partnership’s media relations, community affairs outreach, employee volunteer programs and sponsorship strategies in Houston and other key markets.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute community affairs programs to position the Partnership as a good corporate citizen for employees, investors, regulatory agencies and customers.
  • Develop and implement strategic internal communications and public relations plans that inform and engage Partnership employees.
  • Plan and execute community outreach and volunteer programs in Houston and other key markets.
  • Support the Communications Team with leveraging key sponsorships throughout the country and charitable donations both through the Energy Transfer/Sunoco Foundation and our Corporate giving programs.
  • Other job duties as assigned.

Required Skills (External)

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements for this position are listed below:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Journalism or Marketing Communications required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of communications experience, including external media relations and social media. Agency experience a plus.
  • Excellent writer and communicator – with experience in various communications methodologies.
  • Keen eye for strategy.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Self-directed with the ability to manage multiple projects at once.
  • Execution focus and a strong sense of urgency.

Working Conditions:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

  • Usual, normal office working conditions.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time due to prolonged periods of sitting or standing.
  • Occasional overnight travel required.
  • Occasional visits to industrial/manufacturing settings which may include hazardous materials and chemicals, as well as extreme temperature conditions and loud machinery, and require appropriate personal protective equipment.
