The approximately 345 employees of the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS) are responsible for a wide range of programs that affect the quality of life of every Iowan. Both Iowans living on the farm and those in our towns and cities are impacted almost daily by the work of the Department. IDALS seeks to fill the position of Receptionist to serve as the first point of contact with the walk-in public and to provide phone answering and referral service for the public, other agencies and organizations and the Department. Serve as the main receptionist for IDALS. Greets and announces visitors to the requested party either by telephone or in person and awaits instructions from the requested party as to whether and when the visitor can be seen so that the office can operate efficiently and orderly. Has all visitors to IDALS sign register for security purposes. Signs for deliveries or contacts appropriate party and directs delivery person to the correct location.

Operate the main IDALS telephone line so that incoming calls are answered in a courteous, professional manner. Calls are routed and announced to the receiving party. Effort is made to assure that caller is directed to the correct location to avoid multiple transfers. If not available a message will be taken. Messages are delivered in a timely manner.

General office duties including but not limited to opening, sorting, and date stamping mail; typing letters, forms, labels, envelopes or other material from rough drafts or instructions from supervisor; stuffing envelopes or preparing brochures for mailings; mailing out information packets or IDALS promotional items upon request.

Assist other areas of IDALS with miscellaneous duties as needed and approved by supervisor.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

The equivalent of one year of full-time experience in general office, sales, reception, tour guide or related work experience which involved direct and regular contact with people;

OR graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalency; OR satisfactory completion of a recognized job-related training course at the high school or equivalent level (MDTA, CEP, WIN, etc.) for the required experience.
