Job description

The Massachusetts Dental (MDS) Society is an evolving non-profit organization that works collaboratively to bring initiatives in education, advocacy, and the promotion of the highest professional standards to our 5,000+-member organization. We also champion the benefits of oral health to residents across Massachusetts.

Currently we are looking for a Proofreader/Copywriter with exceptional communication and editorial skills to oversee all our publications. In this role, you will devise strategies to optimize publication procedures, ensuring efficiency and a smooth workflow. The ideal candidate will have superb project management skills, with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment and meet demanding deadlines.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Use excellent planning, editing, and proofreading skills, in order to oversee production and distribution of MDS Publications
  • Work closely with the Volunteer Editor and Assistant Editor of the Journal, as well as story contributors to solicit and select articles that are appropriate to be included in this clinical publication
  • Help authors express their ideas clearly, concisely, and creatively
  • Communicate on a regular basis with members of the Journal’s Editorial Board for input on articles submitted by contributors
  • Research and write articles as needed to support publications
  • Participate on the MDS Communications team and generate content for weekly membership e-newsletter
  • Coordinate the delivery of the digital version of the Journal
  • Collaborate with in-house graphic designers on layout and design of publications
  • Maintain budgets for publications


  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Journalism or Communications
  • A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience overseeing all aspects of producing publications, from editorial content to production
  • Exceptional planning, organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Superb writing, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills as well as interpersonal-relations skills
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and tasks through prioritization and focus
  • A self-starter who can work well both independently and collaboratively with others
