After a successful 2021, in which we launched a major new research programme on The Working Future, we are looking to expand our team to allow us to take on a greater breadth of research topics. We have a wide range of potential topics on our radar, which we would be happy to discuss as part of the interview process.
About the Senior Manager role
The Bain Futures Practice Senior Manager role will focus primarily on leading substantive new research projects from initial idea to publication. You will be an active participant in discussions with group leadership, and will be expected to bring your own ideas and fresh thinking to the table. You will shape the narrative and work with our research team to undertake the necessary analytical groundwork to test and refine our thinking. You will also be involved in the drafting of publications and the preparation of presentation materials for senior external audiences.
We are ideally looking for a full time candidate, but also open to considering part-time candidates.
Roles and responsibilities:
- Develop storylines for potential research projects, and present these to leadership
- Design and execute supporting analytical efforts to test and refine these storylines (including surveys, interviews, analysis of secondary data sources, case studies etc.)
- Draft manuscripts for publications
- Work with our Creative Services team to design high-impact visual presentations
- Work with Marketing to plan and oversee external campaigns
- Support follow-up research and further iteration of our existing IP
- Actively contribute to discussions across the full spectrum of Bain Futures topics
- Collaborate with other Bain practice areas to gather input and increase the visibility of our research
- Provide leadership and coaching for our internal team
Education: No specific educational experience is required for this role, beyond a bachelor’s degree in any field.
Relevant experience: Successful candidates will have demonstrated performance as a former consultant (either at Bain & Company or a similar firm).
Knowledge: While no specific prior knowledge is required for this role, the candidate will need to be widely read on current events to perform well in this role.
Creative thinking: To succeed in this role, this person must be able to generate original and compelling ideas that push forward the thinking of the group.
Proven self-starter: We are a small and distributed team. This person will need to be comfortable shaping their own work with limited guidance, and working remotely. This will require organization, a proactive attitude, and the ability to troubleshoot issues as and when they arise.
Analytical acumen: This person will need to be comfortable with the process of identifying the right analysis to test a hypothesis, quickly drawing conclusions, and where necessary pivoting to further analyses. They will also need to have strong quantitative skills, and be familiar with the standard consulting toolkit (especially Excel and Powerpoint).
Adaptability: This person will need to be able and willing to pivot their work as new input and ideas come into the mix, as well as being willing to change tasks as and when the priorities of the group shift.
Intellectual curiosity: This person will need to exhibit a strong interest in a wide range of topics and ideas, as well as the ability to distill the specific implications for businesses.
Compelling Communication: This person will need to be able to clearly, confidently, and succinctly present their thinking to senior audiences. They will also need to be able to communicate well in written form (powerpoint slides, emails, and articles/memos).
Teaming: This person will need to be effective at getting work done through others, including knowing how to delegate and able to provide coaching.
A great colleague and teammate: Lastly, this person will need to be passionate about their work but also fun to be around, bringing a positive attitude to their interactions with the team.
