Job description

Maximus is seeking a Legal Employment & Labor Specialist to work with Employment Legal Counsel to correspond with Ethics, Maximus Accommodation & Leave Team (MALT), Human Resources, and Management about all employment related issues including providing updates on pending charges of discrimination, ongoing employment related litigation and all other matters related to employment issues. The successful candidate will report to the Senior Vice President of the Legal Counsel.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Utilize legal compliance strategies to support employee engagement, ethical conduct, and business success in fast-paced business environments
  • Advise Maximus HR leads and partner to facilitate practical, efficient solutions to employee related issues
  • Balance business needs with legal compliance, HR on Corporate reorganizations, reduction in force etc.
  • Share legal best practices related to Employment and Labor Compliance, Internal Investigations, Ethics, HR Policy, OFCCP Audits, Leave Management, Wage/Hour Audits, Performance Management, Annual Compliance Training
  • Interact with executive-level management to devise business-focused compliance strategies
  • Manage and deliver support surrounding employment charges and litigation, management counseling, investigations, and policy development
  • Help leverage matters in-house to manage costs and limit use of outside counsel
  • Partner with Ethics and Compliance to set investigation strategy and recommend legally compliant practices
  • Establish preventive law model, focusing on early assessment of all claims, charges, and demands, resolving all matters promptly and efficiently

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Paralegal degree required
  • 3-5 years of experience in related field
  • 2-4 years of experience in Human Resources, including experience with various leave programs and ADA job accommodations
  • Strong working knowledge of state and federal laws
  • Strong relationship building, collaboration and project management skills with experience leading. legal and cross-functional teams
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills required
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel
  • Regular, predictable attendance is an essential function of the job
  • Willingness to travel as necessary
  • Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25lbs/12kg.
