Parsons has an immediate opportunity exists for a qualified candidate to lead the development of hydrogen blending into natural gas pipelines and future hydrogen only pipelines. Hydrogen is key to the new green economy and leveraging the extensive pipeline infrastructure to transport and deliver hydrogen is key. This position requires a strong engineer with a degree in mechanical, chemical or materials engineering. The successful candidate will complement their educational credentials with proven industry experience in the application of hydrogen in storage, transportation, fuel cell, or other areas that would support a deep breadth of the hydrogen effects on materials, especially pipelines. A strong background in metallurgy and mechanical design of complex system assemblies is key to understanding and assessing how to leverage the vast existing pipeline infrastructure.
Open to remote working
Prepare and maintain bills of materials, drawings, and documentation for complex hydrogen generators and hydrogen production plants.
Development of specifications for vendor designed / fabricated hardware with follow-on shop inspections of equipment, including piping, vessels, structures, etc.
Support and review manufacturing partners that provide materials compatible with hydrogen.
Design (pipelines systems) for compliance to various industry standards (US and possibly international).
Provide system or sub-system technical direction overseeing engineers, vendors or 3rd-party designers for compliance with industry practices and defined specifications. This includes component, sub-system or plant-level design, handling, installation, and testing
Develop and support critical engineering-driven materials documentation on the effects and mitigation as applicable to materials exposed to hydrogen.
Support the project implementation team, including evaluation of customer requests for site design, construction, installation, and operation feedback.
Required skills and abilities
Ten year minimum of industry related experience (Hydrogen systems (preferred), large-scale chemical processing, gas and liquid delivery, fluid systems in energy sector).
Understanding of finite element analysis; computational flow dynamics (CFD) experience is a Structural or construction design a bonus.
Understanding of piping system design standards, materials, and construction methods (ASME, PED, etc.) strongly preferred.
Understanding with welding standards (API, ASME, AWS, etc.) strongly preferred.
Experience with conventional pipeline construction and installation.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and develop strategies and opportunities
Capable of working well in a multi-disciplinary team environment with high degree of collaboration, especially with 3rd party design contractors and partners
Excellent verbal and written communication to understand and articulate project and complex technical issues in discussion with external and internal stakeholders
Strong organizational skills and ability to balance multiple projects.
Preferred skills and abilities
Recognized internally and externally as a hydrogen leader with a network of relevant industrial and or government clients.
Preferred excellent communications skills (e.g., writing white papers/proposals/reports/manuals plus compiling/presenting/interacting with program managers and clients). Published and presented key findings (e.g., peer-reviewed journals, conference papers, etc.) as both lead and supporting author.
Experience with metallurgical investigations, e.g. Failure analysis, root cause
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, or related field.
Advance degree in engineering is preferred. This position pays a minimum annual salary of $130,100.00 and a maximum annual salary of $234,200.00. Benefits for this position include: medical, dental, vision, paid time off, Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) and 401K.
