The Health & Safety Manager is responsible for the implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive range of employee health and safety programs and services to meet the goals and legal obligations of Caesarstone. These functions include, but may not be limited to, the assessment, facilitation and evaluation of injury prevention, occupational health and safety, employee wellness and the development, implementation, and consultation on safety policies.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop, implement, execute, evaluate, and update Caesarstone's occupational health and safety policies, procedures, and programs within DCs
  • Develop annual health and safety plans for the company based on a full review of health and safety-related needs (assessment of hazards, analysis of database, audits, changing legislation and best practices)
  • Develop, arrange, and present safety orientation and training for all new employees, existing employees, and visitors to ensure complete and effective understanding of potential risks and expected behaviours within the company
  • Provide all levels of the company with advice related to health and safety matters, legal requirements, and best practices in the field
  • Develop a matrix for training requirements, and assist in the development of rollout programs
  • Develop and manage internal health and safety audits of the company, including risk assessments, at varying levels, and act as a trainer/advisor to internal auditors
  • Ensure that all safety concerns including work refusals are properly investigated and that any necessary corrections to the work processes are implemented and documented
  • Investigate accidents thoroughly and effectively, and respond appropriately as required, including communicating to, training, and following up with supervisors and employees
  • Monitor, amend and update the organization's Health and Safety Handbook
  • Supports Caesarstone’s key business objectives by communicating and managing the implementation of Safety and Health strategic initiatives and serving as safety and occupational health subject matter expert in assigned regions.
  • Effectively manage return to work programs, working closely with the employee, his/her supervisors and the third party Workers Compensation claims manager
  • Provides coaching to local Operations/DC Managers to ensure technical competence and safety leadership development across the region.
  • Act as a resource to or serve as a member on the Joint Health and Safety Committee, assisting and providing information and responses on behalf of the company
  • Lead or participate in investigations of serious incidents within assigned region. Examine and interprets incident data, identifies root cause with site leads, verifies corrective action
  • Monitor site specific and regional health and safety KPIs and where appropriate, assists in the development of corrective and preventive action plans in conjunction with site and/or business unit operations management.
  • Supports corporate safety leadership training and auditing programs.
  • Identify gaps within the organization to better encourage a culture of safety
  • Aids the legal team in pending litigation
  • Perform other related duties as required

Requirements:
  • Fluent int English, Spanish is required - Portuguese is an asset
  • Post-secondary school diploma or degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field of study
  • OSHA 30 status preferred: Occupational Health and Safety Certificate, as per the Occupational Health & Safety Act/Regulations
  • Minimum 5 years of health, safety, and environmental experience preferably in manufacturing or building materials industry.
  • Experience in Warehouse environment in a Safety related position
  • Experience in Fleet Safety Programs and Requirements
  • Knowledge of occupational health and safety management, applicable federal, provincial, and municipal regulations/legislation, Workplace Safety & Insurance Act, the Occupational Health & Safety Act and its regulations and applicable Human Rights
  • Experience with disability management, accident investigation, workplace inspection and job hazard analysis is preferred
  • Proven ability to maintain the confidentiality of information and records
  • High-level organization skills are a must; ability to maintain focus and organization of multiple workstreams while travelling regularly for audits
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to firmly drive actions and deliver business consequences of non-compliance to affiliate fabricators
  • Must be competent presenter, to share knowledge with various levels and customers of the organization
  • Ability to support and gain trust in multiple organizational levels
  • Strong skills in strategy and prioritization.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals
  • Interacts with employees, management and the public at large
  • Lifting or moving up to 50 lbs. may be required
  • Overtime may be required
  • Regular Travel (up to 3 weeks per month) will be required across US visiting Distribution Centers
