YAI is seeking a Director to manage LINK (Linking Individuals to Necessary Knowledge), our information and referral department. The Director leads a team of information specialists who are actively engaged with parents, guardians, educators, professionals, and anyone else in the community looking for information about services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). The Director should have extensive knowledge of the developmental disability service system and New York State’s Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) eligibility requirements. S/he must continually track changes within the service system to ensure that LINK team members have the most up-to-date information to share. The Director should have both clinical and managerial talent, an interest in the field of disability supports, a commitment to helping people navigate the steps toward eligibility, and a willingness to support staff engaged in ongoing relationships with anyone seeking information. Based at YAI’s Headquarters in Midtown Manhattan, the Director works a hybrid schedule of three or more days in the office and two remote. Mission Statement YAI: YAI is a network of agencies offering people with intellectual and developmental disabilities a comprehensive range of services across all ages. YAI empowers people with disabilities to reach their goals every day. Our enthusiastic staff of 4,000 professionals believes that everyone has a fundamental right to live, love, work, and learn. YAI LINK is a team of highly motivated staff who field hundreds of calls and emails each week regarding I/DD services. Additionally, LINK conducts multiple trainings each year on I/DD-related topics, oversees YAI’s annual Autism and Latino conferences, and attends community outreach events throughout New York City to communicate information about YAI and its supports and services. Key responsibilities: The Director will provide supervision and ongoing training to LINK staff in the areas of customer and data management, referral protocol, resources, navigation of the developmental disability service system, changes within the developmental disability field, public speaking, and outreach. Duties include:
  • Running monthly department meetings and trainings to ensure cohesion and effective communication.
  • Overseeing management of constituent data in LINK's Salesforce database, ensuring that information is accurate and tracked efficiently. Assess trends in calls and service requests in order to utilize metrics and effectively seek new opportunities for service enhancement.
  • Representing YAI at regional developmental disabilities council/subcommittee meetings, community fairs, conferences, and other community events as necessary, coordinating LINK’s representation and participation.
  • Overseeing department budget, working in collaboration with financial department staff.
  • Managing state- and city-funded contracts including oversight of program staff, coordinating reporting, and ensuring contract deliverables are met.
  • Managing outreach for trainings and conferences through email campaigns and mailings.
  • Coordinating and conducting city wide community-based presentations for school, community, and professional groups on various topics related to the developmental disability service system.
  • Supporting LINK staff in problem-solving with inquirers who present with challenging situations and provide direct support to inquirers as needed.
  • Establishing and maintaining productive relationships with agencies, organizations, and people who make referrals, or have the potential to make referrals, to YAI.
  • Guiding YAI leadership on the possibilities of improving the quality and breath of experiences available to callers through LINK, seen by some as “YAI’s front-door.”
Education and Experience:
  • BA/BS required. MPA, MPH, or MSW strongly preferred.
  • Five years of experience in human services with progressively amplified management responsibilities.
  • Familiarity with New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities required.
  • Experience providing programmatic supervision required.
Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of the breadth of supports for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities preferred.
  • Understanding and experience working with Salesforce.
  • Experience creating and conducting trainings for professionals, families, and people with I/DD.
  • Familiarity with New York State Department of Health and Office of Mental Health, and New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene preferred.
  • Proficiency in Spanish welcome.
  • Diplomatic and empathetic, with an ability to work well with families, professionals of all titles/levels, and people supported
  • Creative and innovative thinker
  • Highly organized with exceptional interpersonal, problem solving and oral and written communication skills
  • Willing to take initiative and able to work both autonomously and in a group
