Description: Directs, supervises and manages the entire transportation department and its personnel, assuring safe, efficient, and convenient transportation for eligible students
NOTE: The below lists are not ranked in order of importance
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience or industry certification in one or more of the following fields: Education, Business Administration, Management or Transportation
- State of Ohio Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing
- Effective active listening skills
- Organizational and problem solving skills
- Ability to manage personnel and resources
- Formal instruction in student transportation management (classroom instruction and field experience)
- Basic understanding of the educational process and the corresponding role of pupil transportation
- Basic computer competency with accounting and word processing software
- Knowledge of web-based information systems
- Knowledge of state and federal regulations applicable to the transportation of students and to the operation of student transportation vehicles
- Ability to teach driver safety instruction
- Ability to implement and lead in-service programs
Essential Functions:
- Recruit, interview, select and evaluate transportation personnel
- Establish and ensure appropriate staffing levels
- Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately with parents and respond to inquiries in a timely manner.
- Assign drivers to routes and fill vacancies as needed
- Manage driver qualifications
- Ensure only drivers with current and appropriate qualifications are allowed to drive
- Implement and manage a drug and alcohol testing program in compliance with state and federal law
- Effective conflict resolution and problem-solving skills
- Direct development and implementation of student safety education programs
- Plan, implement and manage a fleet safety management program that includes investigation and management of crashes and safety-related incidents
- Monitor road and safety conditions
- Participate in district evaluation of the ability to provide safe transportation services
- Ability to respond 24/7 to emergencies and critical events
- Routing and scheduling of buses
- Develop and implement a plan for preventative and on-going equipment maintenance
- Write and manage bus purchase specifications and implement bidding process
- Recommend vehicle and equipment replacement schedules
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assign work to bus mechanic(s)
- Purchase materials and supplies needed in the transportation system
- Investigate and manage reported problems
- Prepare and maintain accurate reports and records
- Conduct parent conferences regarding transportation problems
- Respond to routine questions and requests in an appropriate manner
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent and or designee

Additional Working Conditions:
- Occasional requirement to travel, both daily and overnight
- Frequent weekend/evening/summer work/overnight
- Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue
- Occasionally lift, carry, push, and pull various items up to a maximum of 25 pounds, e.g., paper boxes, deliveries of supplies and equipment
- Frequently move and position self as necessary to access and operate equipment
- Frequently move around workspace and travel throughout school building
- Occasional operation of a vehicle under inclement weather conditions
- Occasional interaction among unruly children
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $54,589.00 - $161,571.00 per year
