Verve Talent & Literary Agency is seeking an assistant to support a literary agent on our Publishing team. This Agent specializes in literary fiction, memoir, narrative nonfiction, journalism, thriller and children’s books. This is a great opportunity for someone to not only learn about trade publishing but to see how publishing intersects with other aspects of the entertainment industry. We are looking for someone deeply curious, already engaged in the publishing industry, and interested in growing in this position. Avid readers are a must, a commitment to helping stories become books is required.

. Requirements:


  • Provide administrative support, including phones, scheduling, expenses, bookings, and general desk duties
  • Evaluate queries, read submissions, and write reader reports
  • Assist in developing existing projects into submission-ready proposals and manuscripts
  • Draft pitch letters and track submissions to editors
  • Track contracts and payments
  • Engage with clients, editors, foreign rights agents, and colleagues throughout the publishing process
  • Track bestsellers, industry news, and publishing trends
  • With the Agent, actively liaise with the rest of the publishing team and office


  • BA/BS from an accredited University or College or equivalent work experience required
  • 1 year of experience working as an assistant in the publishing industry preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Solution-oriented, extremely organized, and the ability to think strategically
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks
  • Keen interest in books and how they get made
  • Detail-oriented and extremely organized
  • Team oriented
